DOST-PTRI, Museo Pambata spark youth art and innovation with PH Natural Dyes
In celebration of National Arts Month, the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), in collaboration with Museo Pambata, facilitated “HabiKulay,” a Philippine Natural Dye silk screen and painting workshop held at Mini Gallery 3 and 4 of the museum on February 27, 2026.

More than 30 participants joined the workshop, which promotes the use of Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTFs) and Philippine Natural Dyes (NatDyes). The event started with an introductory lecture and presentation, followed by a technical demonstration and a hands-on workshop on silkscreening and painting techniques.
The participants, especially the children, actively engaged in the workshop activities. Most of them were first-time users of natural dyes as paint, as they were more accustomed to working with acrylics. They had to make adjustments to their painting techniques, but these challenges ultimately brought out greater creativity and enjoyment in their work.
Through this initiative, DOST-PTRI brings its innovations in silkscreen and natural dye technology closer to the community, particularly to the youth, while fostering appreciation for arts, culture, and sustainable creativity.
Watch out for the next batch of this workshop!
