During Plenary Session 1, DOST-PTRI Supervising Science Research Specialist Ms. Jenneli E. Caya presents the Institute’s recent updates on their bamboo textile innovation. She notes that 30 percent of textile fibers can be sourced from bamboo materials. She emphasizes how innovation drives the development of alternative raw materials, like bamboo, enabling the production of sustainable fabrics.

She also provides updates on DOST-PTRI’s bamboo textile initiatives during the panel discussion in the afternoon. She explains how these efforts directly benefit local communities with abundant bamboo resources. By maximizing locally available materials in the region, the locals can have more opportunities to establish textile production in their areas, paving the way for new livelihood opportunities and inclusive economic growth.

The presentations during the summit also highlight the growing recognition among researchers, industry leaders, and local government units of the strong potential of bamboo innovation to benefit both communities and various industries. DOST-PTRI hopes that this platform will spark future collaboration and partnership for bamboo textiles innovation in the region.

The summit runs from March 4 to March 5, 2026, at the Golden Prince Hotel and Suites in Cebu City.
