The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) organized a Regional Weaver's Forum as part of the 3rd Philippine Handloom Weaving Conference (PHWC) during the celebration of the 25th Aklan Piña and Fiber Festival held at Marzon Hotel, Kalibo, Aklan on April 26, 2024.
This forum served as a platform to celebrate and promote the rich tradition of piña handloom weaving in the province of Aklan, bringing together weavers, artisans, researchers, and enthusiasts to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and showcase the beauty and craftsmanship of Philippine handwoven textiles, especially in Aklan.
During the forum, various topics related to the handloom weaving ecosystem were discussed, including the sustainability of raw materials, weaving innovations, piña standards, and market opportunities for piña handwoven products.
Through the PHWC, the DOST-PTRI aimed to revitalize and promote the cultural heritage of handloom weaving, support the livelihoods of local weavers, and foster collaboration and innovation in the field of traditional textile production.
