In preparation for the Stellar Fashion Gala in September focusing on Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTFs), Davao Fashion Design Council Foundation, Inc. (DFDCFI) President Emi-Alexander Englis and BD Dodjie Batu visited the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) on May 29, 2024.

This year's Stellar Fashion Gala, DFDCFI, in partnership with DOST-PTRI and Discovery Samal, will showcase a 100-piece luxe resort wear collection from eight designers using eco-friendly fabrics made from banana, pineapple, abaca, bandala, and bamboo, emphasizing sustainable fashion.

In addition, to provide the DFDCFI representatives with deeper understanding of the natural textile production, they observed the production process of yarns at the yarn-spinning facility, as well as the weaving facility where various handloom weaving machines are utilized for training and processing services at the DOST-PTRI Innovation Center for Yarns & Textiles (ICYT).

Furthermore, the Institute introduced to them the Bamboo Textiles PH Program and its developed fabric swatches, as DOST-PTRI will feature bamboo and banana fabrics in the same month and event, with Davao envisioned to be a major producer of bamboo and banana fibers for textiles.
