Bamboo is no longer just a construction material or decorative plant. It’s now at the forefront of a textile revolution in the Philippines, as showcased by the recently launched KAWAYAN: The Bamboo Textiles Exhibition hosted by the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI). This event showcases the versatility and innovation behind bamboo textiles, a sustainable alternative making waves in the global fashion and textile industry.
The exhibition features a range of bamboo-based textile creations, from fabrics and fibers to yarns and fully crafted wearables from the KAWAYARN collections of notable Filipino designers—Francis Libiran, Anthony Cruz Legarda, Avel Bacudio, and the fashion brands BAYO, Likhang Maragondon, and Edited Limited. Notable accessory brands featured include ThreadStory, Piesa, Gouache, and Adante Leyesa. Home decor enthusiasts can explore offerings from renowned brands such as Ottoman Collection, Cotton and Canvas, Artifeks, and CuraFurn HQ, and Table Wear.
Adding a special touch to the exhibition are the wedding pieces of Catherine Diquit-Jennerman and Kyle Douglas "Kulas" Jennerman, a well-known content creator behind Becoming Filipino. Their wedding attire and accessories, designed with a blend of bamboo and silk fabrics, are among the event's highlights. Renowned Filipino designer Francis Libiran created the bamboo-silk wedding fabrics, while the shoes were crafted by Doreen Odvina, and the earrings were designed by Piesa.
KAWAYARN: The Bamboo Textiles PH Exhibition will remain open to the public until the last day of September, from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. If you wish to schedule a visit, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
