DOST-PTRI'S KATHABI GRACES PAPI'S GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) showcased its textile collections at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Publishers Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PAPI) through the KatHABI Fashion Show held at the the PICC Complex, Pasay City on September 24, 2024. The event featured various textile collections developed by the Institute.
The "PTFs Reimagined" collection, designed by Avel Bacudio, highlighted Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTFs) made from materials such as abaca, banana, pineapple, and bamboo. This collection aimed to demonstrate the capabilities of local resources in the textile industry.
The KAWAYARN Collection, designed by Anthony Cruz Legarda, presented garments made from bamboo fibers, focusing on the use of sustainable materials in fashion.
Additionally, the GAMAYO 100 collection, designed by Amor Albano, featured handwoven fabrics from the GAMABA Cultural Center in Pinili, Ilocos Norte. This collection commemorated the 100th birthday of Magdalena Gamayo, a recognized figure in the weaving community.
