DOST-PTRI Champions Sustainable Textiles at RSTW 2025 in Cebu
The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) joined the exhibit at the 2025 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) in Cebu, aligning with the event’s theme, Blue Economy.

The exhibit featured sustainable and locally made textiles like Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) made from abaca, banana, bamboo, pineapple, and Philippine silk which. The SAFATOS program also gained attention for using natural fibers in footwear and developing a national foot sizing system.
For the first time at RSTW, Textile Revitalization (TexRev) is exhibited, transforming textile waste into new yarns and products.. Visitors also explored Natural Dyes (NatDyes) and a live demonstration of fiber-to-fabric transformation.
With strong participation from government, private institutions, and academe, DOST-PTRI’s exhibit highlighted the role of science and innovation towards a circular and sustainable textile innovation ecosystem.
