As part of the Opening Day of the 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) and Abacanobasyon 2.0 in Bicol Region, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) participated by mounting the Abaca Textile Innovation Exhibition. The exhibition was located at the Catanduanes State University Gymnasium, Virac, Catanduanes on May 22, 2024. 

With the theme “Siyensya, Teknolohiya, at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Kinabukasan," RSTW Bicol showcased Bicolandia’s Abaca innovations. 

The DOST-PTRI highlighted the abaca textile technologies involved in the transformation from fibers, yarns, fabrics, wearables, shoes, handicrafts to home furnishings. 

The exhibition gives the visitors a chance to take a closer look at the natural textile fiber-based (NTF) yarns using a microscope, try handloom weaving using DOST-PTRI's Modified Handloom Weaving Machine, and understand and measure the colors of nature through color spaces in Colorimetry.
