RADYO SIYENSYA FEATURES BAMBOO TEXTILES TO KICKSTART PHILIPPINE BAMBOO MONTH

To kick off the celebration of Philippine Bamboo Month this September, Radyo Siyensya aired a special feature on KAWAYARN: The Bamboo Textile PH. The program was hosted by Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr., along with DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) Director Dr. Julius L. Leano Jr., Mr. Lope E. Bautista, President of Timpuyog Dagiti Mannalon ti Casilagan, and co-anchor Onin Miranda.
During the segment, Secretary Solidum emphasized bamboo’s many ecological and economic benefits, highlighting its potential in various industries, including textiles. He pointed out that bamboo is an abundant and renewable resource in the Philippines, offering sustainable solutions in various sectors in our country.
Dr. Leano shared insights on the latest advancements in bamboo textile technology and the ongoing research and development at DOST-PTRI. The institute is working to transform bamboo fibers into high-quality textiles that serve as eco-friendly alternatives to traditional fabrics.
The special feature marks the start of a month-long celebration of bamboo, aiming to showcase its environmental significance and economic potential for the Philippines. More activities and discussions on bamboo innovations are expected throughout the month.
