The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) recently had the privilege of co-organizing its KatHABI Exhibit with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). The exhibit not only showcased progress in Philippine Tropical Fabrics, Bamboo-based Textiles, Pineapple-based Textiles, and Natural Dyes but also highlighted the fruitful collaborations between DOST-PTRI and various government entities.
The Opening Ceremony, attended by DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum, Jr. and DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, underscored the significance of such endeavors in advancing national progress and fostering economic stability. A subsequent high-level meeting convened after the ceremony underscored the imperative of leveraging resources effectively to bolster textile projects spanning diverse regions of the Philippines, thereby ensuring tangible benefits for the Filipino people.
DOST-PTRI proudly introduced innovative programs like Fostering the Revitalization of Nascent Textile Innovation Ecosystems in the Region (FRONTIER) and Creativity and Equity Through Accelerated Textile Technology Engagement and Entrepreneurship for Vulnerable Sectors (CREATEEVS), thoughtfully crafted to invigorate textile innovation ecosystems and provide vital support to marginalized sectors through accelerated technology adoption and entrepreneurial pursuits. These initiatives, complemented by the establishment of the Textile Academy, represent meaningful steps toward catalyzing scientific, technological, and innovative advancements nationwide.
Secretary Pangandaman graciously reiterated her steadfast commitment to amplifying the Institute's regional textile initiatives, reflecting the administration’s dedication to fostering sustainable growth and development within the textile sector. This collaborative endeavor stands poised to unleash the full potential of Philippine textiles, heralding a new era of opportunity for all stakeholders involved.
