DOST-PTRI and MTIT-BARMM Forge Textile Innovation Partnership

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) and the Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism - Regional Office for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MTIT-BARMM) held an Innovation Dialogue at the TELA Gallery, DOST-PTRI on April 23, 2025. The event focused on Mapping, Scoping and Profiling BARMM Textiles Towards Developing Textile Inclusive Innovation Ecosystem in BARMM.

The dialogue included a review of their drafted Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the BARMM Textile Roadmap Development and for the potential project and programs to support the textile industry in BARMM. Plans for promoting Halal Modest Fashion and Halal Textile Science and Technology Program was also discussed. Both sides committed to redrafting the MOU as a multi-party agreement and agreed to include the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). Additionally, DOST-PTRI expressed its interest in being involved from the early stages of planning and meetings to ensure more cohesive collaboration.

Key initiatives discussed include conducting a Learning Exchange Visit at DOST-PTRI and RYPIC Iloilo with the BARMM Textile Stakeholders, and Technology Visit at Tipo Tipo Weaving Center in Basilan.

The partnership aims to strengthen the textile value chain in BARMM and align innovation with inclusive community development.
