PTRI brings investors and industry adaptors its textile innovations at the 2017 Negosyo Fair
The Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI), the lead textile research and development arm of the Department of Science and Technology, will showcase its completed researches and technologies at the 2017 Negosyo Fair.
Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry, the trade fair runs from June 21 to 22, 2017 where investors and industry adaptors can see the textile innovations brought by PTRI and interact with the Institute’s representatives for possible partnerships.
Exhibit Highlights
Among the highlights of the exhibit are indigenous-fiber yarns produced at PTRI’s own facility, the Innovation Center for Yarns and Textiles (ICYT). Entrepreneurs from various industries can approach PTRI to enable them with small-volume production of fibers and yarns, as the Center prides itself in developing agricultural inputs into high-value yarns essential for numerous textile developments.

At the same time, mosquito-repellent textile products will be displayed. This technology developed by PTRI researchers has a “rechargeable” feature that allows prolonged efficacy, rendering it useful for apparel, furnishings, and other uses.
Apparel made with fabrics from indigenous yarns and embellished with natural dyes
PTRI is also home to the NatDye Center, which serves as the core facility for natural dyes and color innovations in the Philippines. The Institute has successfully studied over 100 dye sources, many of which come from local and indigenous plants. This provides a promising opportunity for many textile applications, as well as to other commodities, such as food, cosmetics, and industrial materials. Some of these outputs will be exhibited at the Negosyo Fair.
Portable therapeutic handloom specially designed for persons with different abilities
Other technologies open for adaptors and investors are the PTRI-developed Portable Therapeutic Handloom and the Modified Handloom Weaving Machine, and interested individuals and groups can also avail of the training courses for Natural Dyes and Handloom Weaving at the exhibit.
These are just a few of the business opportunities that MSMEs can explore and readily utilize through the innovations done by the Philippine Textile Research Institute. With its array of facilities and wide access to information, PTRI can help MSMEs achieve global competitiveness not only in textile and garment applications but also in other industries.
PTRI’s exhibit at the Negosyo Fair is located at Mega Trade Hall 1, 5/F Megamall B, Mandaluyong City from June 22 to 24, 2017. For more information, visit www.ptri.dost.gov.ph or contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
