The University of the Philippines Los Baños College of Forestry and Natural Resources Alumni Association (UPLB CFNRAA) conferred recently its highest award to Dr. Carlos C. Tomboc, director, Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI).


Dr. Tomboc, a forester and alumnus of UPLB CFNR, received the Hall of Fame Award from the UPLB CFNRAA for his expertise and competence as an administrator, researcher, and public servant. Dr. Tomboc has served as director of PTRI since January 3, 2000. PTRI is the lead agency in textile research and development of the Department of Science and Technology. Before joining PTRI, Dr. Tomboc became executive director of the Presidential Task Force on Water Resources Development and Management of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) from 1998 to 1999. He was also acting general manager of Laguna Lake Development Authority from 1996 to 1997, director of Environmental Management Bureau of DENR from 1995 to 1996 among other public positions held.

The CFNRAA also recognized Dr. Tomboc’s past honors and awards such as the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award from the Civil Service Commission, Outstanding Professional of the Year Award from the Professional Regulations Commission, and Mancono Award for the most outstanding alumnus also by the CFNRAA.

The awarding ceremony was held during the celebration of the CFNR Centennial Foundation and Alumni Homecoming Week on April 20, 2010 at the Philippine Army Clubhouse, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. (Arlene R. Obmerga, S&T Media Service)
