DOST-PTRI to Establish Silk Cocoon Hub in Laguna in Collaboration with DOST-CALABARZON and GSFAC
The DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), in partnership with DOST-CALABARZON, is preparing for the establishment of the first commercial-scale Silk Cocoon Hub in Pangil, Laguna, in collaboration with the Galalan Sericulture Farmer Association Corporation (GSFAC).

This first cocoon hub is designed to rear a minimum of 100,000 silkworms per cycle, capable of producing approximately 100 kilograms of silk cocoons per cycle. It will utilize mulberry leaves from the residual materials of Magra Nutri Foods Inc.'s fruit processing operations, promoting a circular and resource-efficient model..
The hub is pictured as a model silk cocoon production enterprise, with potential for replication across other areas in and beyond Laguna. It serves as a strategic model in the development of the regional silk production ecosystem, contributing significantly to the broader goal of Philippine silk self-reliance.
