In a groundbreaking move, the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) made its highly anticipated debut at the 2024 Bangsamoro Science and Technology Week (BSTW), held from October 16 to 17 at Cotabato State University. This first-ever participation, organized by the Bangsamoro Government’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), underscores the growing recognition of textile innovation as a cornerstone of regional progress in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). 

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) is exploring a groundbreaking collaboration with PETValue Philippines to upcycle plastic bottle waste into textile raw materials, potentially reshaping the country's approach to sustainability. This initiative comes as the global demand for sustainable solutions grows in the face of environmental concerns over plastic pollution. 

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) recently met with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) at the Pasay City Jail Male Dormitory to establish a partnership for a textile-based livelihood project for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs). The initiative will focus on Tapestry Weaving and Woven Fabric Production. 

In a move to bridge education and industry, eight students enrolled in HE 211 (Teaching Techniques in Garments Technology) from Mariano Marcos State University's Graduate School visited the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) on October 18, 2024. The facility tour offered the students a unique, firsthand look at the latest advancements in the country’s textile industry, highlighting sustainable innovations and state-of-the-art processes.
