The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) joined the closing activities of the 2024 World Ikat Textile Symposium (WITS) with a cultural immersion at the Winaca Eco-Cultural Village and Forest Homes in Benguet. This event celebrated the artistry and traditions of weavers and artisans through live demonstrations of weaving techniques.

In a bid to revolutionize and sustain the textile industry across all regions of the Philippines, the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) capped off its participation in the 15 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) events for 2024 by joining the RSTW Central Luzon held at Central Luzon State University (CLSU), Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija. Running from December 10 to 12, 2024, the event highlighted DOST-PTRI’s ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability as an exhibitor.

The event served as a platform to highlight the immense potential of bamboo in promoting sustainability and boosting the Philippine textile industry. DOST-PTRI showcased how bamboo, a renewable and abundant resource, can be transformed into high-quality textile fibers, positioning it as a key player in the country’s shift toward eco-friendly and innovative materials.

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) recently welcomed the DOST-National Capital Region (DOST-NCR) and the social enterprise Revolve Eco.Logical Outwear to explore potential synergies for research and development on December 4, 2024. The discussions focused on converting plastic bottle waste into textile raw materials, aiming to create cost-effective, locally produced eco-friendly products. This partnership is particularly timely, as the global demand for sustainable solutions intensifies, driven by growing concerns over the environmental impact of plastic pollution.
