Leaño, Jr., Director IV of the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), delivered a plenary at the 2024 World Ikat Textile Symposium (WITS) held on December 5, 2024 at the Baguio City Convention Center as one of the speakers at the Plenary 7: Contemporary Developments. His topic, “Philippine Textile Innovation in the Context of the Ikat Weaving Culture in Southeast Asia, " was not just a technical discussion—it was a call to action for communities, policymakers, and artisans to build an inclusive, sustainable textile future.

As part of its commitment to sustainable textile innovation, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) joined the Artisan’s Bazaar by showcasing a textile exhibition at the World Ikat Textiles Symposium (WITS) 2024. The symposium, held from December 3–6, 2024, was organized by the World Crafts Council Asia Pacific Region (WCC-APR) in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Baguio and the Cordillera Textiles Project (CordiTex) at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center (BCCC) in Baguio City.

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) made its mark at the opening ceremony of the World Ikat Textiles Symposium (WITS) 2024 on December 3, 2024. The event, organized by the World Crafts Council Asia Pacific Region (WCC-APR) in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Baguio and the Cordillera Textiles Project (CordiTex), was held at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center (BCCC) in Baguio City, a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art. With the theme "Ties that Bind: Weaving a Defining Future," the symposium celebrated the rich culture and artistry of ikat weaving while emphasizing its significance in global textile heritage.
