The DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), led by Director Julius L. Leano, Jr., Ph.D., joined the Kick-off Meeting on Promoting Geographical Indications (GI) on 15 May 2025 at IPOPHL. Organized by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), along with the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the CIRAD–REDD Consortium, the meeting marked a significant step in protecting Filipino products through the GI framework.

In celebration of Father’s and Mother’s Day, the Philippine Textile Research Institute Employees’ Association (PTRIEA) hosted a "Healthy Lifestyle and Wellness Activity" on May 15-16, 2025, at the DOST-PTRI Training Room.

27 Fiber Handicraft Artists from Polomolok, South Cotabato and nearby areas have completed a specialized training on Reactive Dyeing for Cellulosic Fibers, aimed at enhancing the vibrancy and value of their pineapple fiber products. The training was requested by the Polo Samahang Nayon Multi-purpose Cooperative (PSNMPC), one of the long-standing cooperatives in the area, to improve the skills and creativity of their artists in producing colorful, high-quality handicrafts.

In a move to uplift textile innovation and design, the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) recently engaged with the Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence in Design (AiDLab) in Hong Kong to to strengthen partnerships and explore new opportunities in textile innovation and design.
