As we welcome the new year, the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) enters a new milestone as it marks its 51st year towards the development of high quality textiles. Staying committed to its vision, PTRI still carries its flagship tagline “Textiles Empowering Lives Anew (TELA)” and its promise to use textiles as an instrument in improving the livelihood of Filipinos in the countryside and textile manpower of the nation.

PTRI hosts First ASEAN Textile Conference in the Philippines, Puts Sustainability and Science and Technology in Spotlight
The Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) recently hosted TELA ASEAN Textile Conference, which brought together key persons from the textile industry and ASEAN-member countries to discuss the state of the region’s textile industry and to find ways to address its challenges. Featuring presentations from the delegates – including an ASEAN textile exhibit and mini-trade fair of Filipino textile MSMEs – the first TELA ASEAN Textile Conference in the Philippines coincided with the 50th founding anniversary of both PTRI and the ASEAN.

This November: ASEAN Textile Exhibit at the SMX Convention Center Aura
The Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI), with support from the ASEAN Foundation, will hold an exhibit featuring ASEAN regional textiles on November 7 to 8, 2017 at the SMX Convention Center Aura. The textile exhibit draws attention to the numerous textile industries that thrive in the ASEAN region, from the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, and Malaysia, to Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. Emphasis is laid on handwoven fabrics, natural dyes, and naturally dyed products that are being used by people all over the Southeast Asian region, exhibiting each country’s rich heritage, character, and culture.

PTRI BRINGS ‘TELA’ TO THE 2017 RSTW ILOILO

ILOILO CITY, ILOILO, REGION VI – The Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) brings its programs and initiatives to the Iloilo leg of the 2017 Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) under the Support to Industry and MSMEs exhibit cluster. Specifically, the Institute opens its premier spinning and finishing facility – the Innovation Center for Yarns and Textiles (ICYT) through a virtual reality (VR) tour. In a nutshell, the ICYT seeks to bridge the gap between agricultural inputs and end-users of textile products, and encourage potential textile developments across the Country.

BUHI, CAMARINES SUR, REGION V – With a mandate of organizing community development programs to its power transmission beneficiaries or host communities, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) recently inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) for a six-month project of providing capability building trainings to the Buhi OTOP Key Players Association (BOKPA) Weavers.
