The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) warmly welcomed Mangyan weavers, Mindoro State University staff, and officials from the Local Government Units (LGUs) of Mansalay and Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, for the first day of their learning visit on May 30, 2024.
The visit commenced with a guided tour of the Institute's facilities that enhanced the participants' understanding and appreciation of natural textile production. The tour included discussions on textile testing and demonstrations in spinning, weaving, natural dyeing, and fiber processing.
In the afternoon, the weavers had the opportunity to engage in both basic and advanced handloom weaving sessions using traditional handloom machine and the HL Mach 4.0, a modified loom developed by DOST-PTRI.
Furthermore, the Weaver's Bazaar opened in the TELA Gallery Conference Room, offering products from the weavers of Mansalay and Roxas. Items for sale included bracelets, necklaces, earrings, keychains, bags, baskets, brooms, placemats, table runners, and ramit fabrics.
