DOST-PTRI PRESENTS TEXTILE INNOVATIONS AT PAMANA AGHAM 2024

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) played a key role on the "TelaHanga: Innovations for the Textile Industry" by presenting a series of updates on textile technologies and initiatives. during second day of the Pamana Agham 2024 at Casa Manila, Intramuros, Manila on August 29, 2024.
In the presentation titled "SusTELAble FUTURE," DOST-PTRI showcased its advancements in Natural Dye Technologies, including the sources of natural dyes, their applications in silk screen and digital printing inks, and bio-colorants. It also covered Smart Textile (SmartTex) innovations, featuring water-repellent textiles, flame-retardant materials, controlled-release mosquito repellent fabrics, anti-microbial textiles, photocatalytic fabrics, covert luminescent materials, and alternative leather finishing techniques.
The discussion continued with "TROPIC: Tropical Resources for Optimized Philippine Innovative Clothing," where DOST-PTRI explored various natural textile fibers (NTFs) such as abaca, pineapple, banana, bamboo, and other emerging fibers like bakong, saluyot, and water hyacinth.
The presentation also highlighted the different hubs established by DOST-PTRI to support the textile industry in the country, including the Natural Textile Fiber Innovation Hub (NTFIH), the Silk Innovation Hub, the Regional Yarn Production and Innovation Center (RYPIC), and the Regional Handloom Weaving Innovation Centers (RHWIC).
