Benito Soliven, Isabela Aims to Lead in Banana Textile Fiber Development with the Establishment of NTFIH
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PTRI), met with LGU-Benito Soliven, Isabela marking a significant milestone in their collaborative efforts for the Natural Textile Fiber Innovation Hub (NTFIH).

LGU-Benito Soliven Isabela takes proactive steps in driving the project forward. One of the key focuses is the promotion of raw banana textile fiber products, with Benito Soliven positioning itself as a leader in the development of this natural resource. Their commitment to showcasing these products highlights the region's potential for sustainable agricultural development and value-added production.
The LGU-Benito Soliven Isabela embarks on a comprehensive research initiative to explore alternative fiber sources. This includes investigating wild abaca, a known strong and versatile fiber, as well as sugarcane bagasse, which has become an increasingly sought-after material in various industries. These efforts underscore the LGU's dedication to diversifying the region's fiber development and tapping into sustainable materials that can support both local industries and broader environmental goals.
In addition, the DOST-PTRI team engaged with the Laguna De Handicrafts Association in Santa Teresita, Cagayan, to see the Bakong farms and collect raw Bakong fibers. The team was welcomed by Mr. Marnoly Samortin and Ms. Dominga Javier. During their visit, Ms. Annie C. Babida demonstrated the weaving process using raw Bakong fibers. This initiative reflects the Project Team's commitment to exploring and developing Bakong fibers as a sustainable source of natural textile material, highlighting the potential for innovation in the textile innovation ecosystem.
