The DOST-PTRI organized an exhibition showcasing the silk production value chain, offering visitors a unique insight into the journey from germplasm to silk fabric. This educational aspect highlights the importance of sustainable and locally-driven practices in silk production.
The exhibit also displayed a diverse range of silk and silk-blend creations. From traditional weavings to contemporary fashion pieces, the exhibition aims to celebrate the versatility of silk and its significance in the region's cultural and economic landscape.
Featured collections in the exhibit are from Filipino-American Fashion Designer Anthony Cruz Legarda and BAYO. The wearables are made of silk and naturally dyed with Talisay and Indigo.
Moreover, the exhibition highlights the intricate work of local weavers and skilled Filipino artisans whose array of silk products reflects both local capability and creativity. The partnerships fostered among women and men in the indigenous handloom weaving industry and the renowned apparel makers demonstrate the integration and readiness of the downstream players to make the Philippine Silk a part of the mainstream textile industry.
