The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) mounted a textile innovation exhibition at the 44th Annual PAASE Meeting and Symposium (APAMS), held at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) on July 15, 2024. DOST-PTRI showcases its latest advancements in textile technology, underscoring its commitment to knowledge generation and innovation.
Central to the exhibition is the Bamboo Textiles PH Program, presenting a diverse array of products including fabrics, wearables, and bags mainly derived from bamboo fibers.
A notable feature of the exhibit is footwear made from local and sustainable textile materials incorporating DOST-PTRI's Smart Textile technologies, such as water-repellent and anti-microbial finishings.
Attendees can also take a closer look at the Institute's patented blended yarns and fiber transformations of natural fibers like banana, pineapple leaf, bamboo, and abaca. All of which illustrate DOST-PTRI's bioprospecting initiatives to promote sustainability and provide economic opportunities in the country.
Highlighting the Institute's commitment to safety and quality assurance, the exhibition includes Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) made from cotton-bamboo yarns infused with water-repellent and antimicrobial finishing technology. Moreover, the exhibit presents the Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) made from bamboo fabric, which is printed with the DOST-PTRI and RDC camouflage pattern using a screen-printing technique.
Aside from the exhibition, DOST-PTRI researchers will present their research studies at the 44th APAMS. Keep posted for more information.
