The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), in collaboration with DOST - National Capital Region (DOST-NCR), held an Innovation Dialogue on October 29, 2024, at the Amoranto Arena’s Press Room in Quezon City. The event, part of the 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week in the National Capital Region, convened textile industry leaders in the textile-garment sector to discuss advancements and address current industry needs.

The Innovation Dialogue gathered textile manufacturers in Metro Manila to explore ways to enhance the competitive edge of the Filipino textile industry. The event highlighted DOST-PTRI's ongoing efforts to uphold quality standards, particularly through robust testing protocols that ensure fabrics meet both local and international benchmarks. Participants also learned about the Institute's advancements in digital pattern-making and visual prototyping, both of which offer streamlined solutions for design and production, promoting efficiency and reducing material waste.

DOST-PTRI representatives noted that these initiatives aim to position Philippine textiles as leaders in quality and sustainability, helping local producers achieve broader market reach. Through enhanced testing and digital tools, the Institute is equipping the industry with the resources to amplify their craft while adhering to global standards.

Meanwhile, DOST-NCR Regional Director Eng. Romelen T. Tresvalles emphasized that the partnership with DOST-PTRI signals a shared commitment to fostering innovation within the region's textile sector. The collaboration aims to drive progress through technological interventions that could strengthen the resilience, adaptability, and competitiveness of NCR’s textile-garment industry.

The dialogue, set against the broader theme of Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week, underscored DOST’s dedication to advancing the textile industry. By fostering an open exchange of ideas among textile experts and industry leaders, the event laid the groundwork for a future where NCR’s textile sector is both innovative and globally competitive.
