In line with the National Women's Month Celebration and as a priority area of Taguig City's Livelihood Caravan Project, 15 empowered women successfully graduated after completing a five-day training in DOST-PTRI's Basic Handloom Weaving Course. The course equipped them with fundamental weaving skills using an upright, 4-harness handloom weaving machine, covering weaving terminologies, elementary fabric computations, and handloom machine operations with troubleshooting to create basic pattern weave designs, aiming to generate livelihood opportunities for women beneficiaries.

The culminating event, Sustaining Women's Innovation and Financial Transformation (SWIFT), was graced by DOST-PTRI Director Julius Leaño Jr., Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, and 1st District Representative of Taguig-Pateros Hon. Ricardo Cruz Jr. at Lakeshore Hall, Lower Bicutan, Taguig City, where participants received their Certificate of Completion.

In addition to weaving, the city conducted various livelihood training programs such as basic sewing machine operations, coffee making, pastry making, bread making, sardines making, and stuffed toy making in collaboration with TESDA and the Taguig Manpower Training and Assessment Center (TMTAC).

This initiative marks a continuation of the partnership established during the Memorandum of Agreement last February 2024 - a significant step towards creating more job opportunities for women and enhancing the textile industry in the city through the Handloom Weaving Innovation Hub.
