In a significant stride towards advancing the development of sustainable spunlaid nonwoven textiles, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) and JG Summit Olefins Corporation (JGSOC) have formalized their partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).
The signing ceremony, held on June 18, 2024, at the JGSOC Head Office in Ortigas, Pasig City, marks a milestone in the utilization of polymer materials in spunlaid nonwovens for high-performance applications such as filtration, agro-textiles, and geo-textiles.
The Institute representative, Mr. Audric Zuriel C. Cruz, Science Research Specialist II, delivered an insightful presentation on DOST-PTRI’s Spunlaid Nonwovens R&D Program, followed by a discussion between both parties that highlighted the collaborative synergy between DOST-PTRI and spunlaid stakeholders in implementing the program’s initiatives.
Moreover, the signing of this MOA marks a key step in improving interagency collaboration, combining networks, expertise, and resources to boost local innovation capabilities. DOST-PTRI and JGSOC aim to lead the local nonwoven market by pursuing value-adding opportunities and partnerships. This collaboration will develop and deploy spunbond and meltblown nonwoven textiles in the market.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from DOST-PTRI, including Dr. Julius L. Leaño Jr., Director IV, and Ms. Zailla F. Payag, Supervising Science Research Specialist. Representing JGSOC were Mr. Arnel L. Santos, President & CEO, Mr. Rolando D. Marasigan, Jr., Group Product Manager & Officer-in-Charge of the Product Technology Group, and Ms. Ariane Victoria M.
