The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) presented its latest innovations on the second day of the Technology Forum, titled "TechTransfer Day on Sustainability and Wealth Creation." This event was part of the 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week for Region 1, held at Plaza del Norte, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte on July 4, 2024.
DOST-PTRI representative Mr. Angelito T. Uldo, from the Technology Transfer, Information, and Promotion Staff (TIPS), discussed the Institute's pioneering technologies in the creative industry. The forum highlighted several key innovations aimed at enhancing sustainability and promoting economic growth in the textile sector.
One of the featured technologies was the Miniature Integrated Natural Fiber Extraction and Degumming Machine, designed to streamline the extraction and degumming process of natural fibers. This machine aims to boost productivity and ensure the quality of fibers used in textile production, supporting the industry's shift towards sustainable materials.
The Institute also introduced its Therapeutic Handloom Weaving Machine, with a sliding beater specifically designed for differently-abled persons, paraplegics, and elders. This technology's distinct feature is a hand-held lever that replaces pedals, making it easier to interchange harnesses during weaving.
Further, DOST-PTRI showcased its Handloom Weaving Technologies, specifically the Table-type Loom Weaving Machine. This innovation is designed for versatility and ease of use, making it accessible for small-scale weavers and promoting the preservation of traditional weaving methods.
