In a groundbreaking initiative, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI), in collaboration with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), launched the first-ever National Certificate II (NC II) Upright Handloom Weaving Assessment Support Program that ran from July 22 to 26, 2024.

Aimed at advancing the skills and recognition of handloom weavers across the Philippines, this program seeks to create a pool of certified and proficient weavers. Twenty weavers from various regions of the country participated in the assessment, benefitting from this strategic initiative.

Successful participants of the program have the opportunity to pursue the Trainers Methodology 1 Certification from TESDA. This certification qualifies them to become trainers and assessors, further extending their expertise and contributing to the growth of the handloom weaving industry.

The Support Program is an integral part of the Textile Academy at DOST-PTRI. It not only provides a platform for knowledge sharing but also fosters collaboration in education, skill enhancement, and capacity building. Furthermore, this underscores the commitment of DOST-PTRI and TESDA to elevate the craftsmanship of Filipino weavers, ensuring the sustainability and advancement of the country's textile heritage.

Please stay tuned for the announcement of the next batch. Updates on upcoming schedules will be posted soon.
