The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) showcased groundbreaking textile innovations at the Halal Expo Philippines 2024, held from November 14 to 16, 2024 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila. This year’s theme, "Shaping the Future of the Philippine Halal Industry Together," underscored DOST’s dedication to fostering innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity within the Halal sector.

The Institute, the lead curator of the DOST Pavilion Booth, highlighted sustainable textile technologies and innovative solutions tailored to the growing Halal market. The DOST Pavilion earned the prestigious Best Pavilion Award 2024, cementing DOST’s role as a pioneer in advancing the Philippine Halal industry.

At the forefront of the display was a 12-look prêt-à-porter modest fashion collection of Hilyah by Nurainie Ampatuan, a Moro fashion designer from Maguindanao. Featuring Philippine Tropical Fabrics developed by DOST-PTRI, the collection underscored the Institute’s commitment to creating Halal-compliant, sustainable textiles while promoting cultural heritage.

Visitors also explored sustainable technologies and industry-compliant innovations that address the unique needs of the Halal market. The exhibit underscored DOST-PTRI’s dual mission: to support the Philippine Halal industry’s expansion while promoting sustainable practices within the textile sector.

With the DOST Pavilion’s success at the Halal Expo Philippines 2024, the event marked another milestone in the agency’s ongoing efforts to drive innovation and inclusivity across industries. The award-winning showcase is a testament to the power of collaboration in shaping the future of the Philippine Halal industry.
