DOST-PTRI and NVSU Discuss Potential Collaboration on Sericulture Project
The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) is in talks for a potential collaboration with Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) on a sericulture project. Dr. Jayson Q. Caranza, Dean of NVSU’s College of Forestry, outlined the university’s interest in developing a 5-hectare mulberry plantation for silkworm production where farmers will play an important role in the initiative, with the goal of boosting the region’s agricultural output.

As part of the potential partnership, DOST-PTRI is expected to provide technical expertise and research support. This includes helping local farmers improve their mulberry cultivation techniques and ensuring sustainable silk production practices. The collaboration aims to strengthen the silk industry in the Philippines while promoting eco-friendly farming practices.
DOST-PTRI and NVSU see this as a promising opportunity to create new economic opportunities for local farmers in Nueva Vizcaya and contribute to the growth of the country’s textile innovation ecosystem. Further discussions and updates are expected, so watch out for this collaboration!
