37 Grade 11 students and 5 staff from Philippine Science High School - Caraga Region Campus toured the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) - Silk Research and Innovation Center (SRIC) in Misamis Oriental for a day of deep and interactive learning.

During the educational tour, the students learned about DOST-PTRI’s important role in the development of the silk industry. They were taken to the model rearing house, where they observed 5th-instar silkworm larvae and mounted cocoons. The students also watched a demonstration on how raw silk is processed after the cocoons are harvested. 

This experience provided the students and staff with knowledge on the application of science, technology, and sustainable practices within the Philippine silk industry. 

Another educational tour is expected on 11 April 2025 for another group of students from the Philippine Science High School - Central Mindanao Campus.
