TC-PTF Intensifies Efforts Toward Full Implementation of the PTF Law

The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) participated in the 7th Meeting of the Technical Committee for the Implementation of the Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) Law (TC-PTF), held on April 24, 2025 at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Filinvest Building, Makati City.

Hosted by the DTI, the meeting brought together key representatives from the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) with Ms. Evangeline Flor P. Manalang as Chair of the session, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) led by Director Katherine Limare-Delmoro, and the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (DA-PhilFIDA), led by Executive Director Arnold “Ali” I. Atienza. The Committee also welcomed Dr. Leonila T. Baluyut, Assistant Secretary of the DTI’s Competitiveness and Innovation Group (CIG), as a permanent member.

The agenda featured updates on the PTF Monitoring System, the current landscape of local textile fiber production, certification and testing developments, and promotional initiatives aimed at expanding the use of PTF-compliant materials. The DOST-PTRI received a commendation from other TC-PTF members for its notable accomplishments in furthering the goals of the PTF Law since its implementation.

Moving forward, the Committee outlined strategic steps, which include initiating a dialogue with uniform and garment manufacturers, led by DOST-PTRI in collaboration with DTI; and refining the roadmap to ensure the effective and comprehensive implementation of the PTF Law.
