The Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) participated in the Mindanao Technology Transfer Day, which is the last Technology Transfer Day for 2016, last December 13 at the SMX Convention Center, SM City Lanang in Davao del Sur, jointly organized by the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region XI. Exhibited in the event are technologies from various DOST projects ready for transfer and commercialization.
PTRI showed five (5) of its research and development outputs at the event. These technologies were the Geoloom with Warp and Cloth Beams, Innovative Yarns and Textile Processing, Twining and Twisting Machine, Natural Dyes Technology, and Modified Handloom Weaving Machine. Samples of handwoven products and naturally-dyed yarns were also brought in and displayed at the booth. PTRI had 13 visitors during the one-day event.
Highlighting the affair, in the morning, was the showcase of 15 technologies from the participating DOST Research and Development Institutes (RDIs) and partner Universities with R&D projects supported by the Department. Five-minute pitches were presented for each of the 15 technologies. Mr. Norly B. Villar, Head of the Technology Transfer Information and Promotion Staff (TIPS), represented the PTRI team with the Modified Handloom Weaving Machine on pitch.

In his pitch, Mr. Villar discussed the growing interest in our local hand-woven fabrics. He presented the features of the PTRI-developed Modified Handloom Weaving Machine that improves efficiency of hand weaving, as well as provide improved durability at a reasonable cost.
The Technology Transfer Day, in the afternoon, was followed through by a press conference; negotiations between invited clients and exhibitors; two (2) ceremonial memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing between DOST-TAPI and Landbank of the Philippines, and DOST-TAPI and the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD); MOA signing between DOST Agencies and the private sector; launching of TAPI’s Intellectual Property Database Management System; and the reporting of outputs of consolidations/negotiations.
