Dr. Leaño received the Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. for his opening speech. Secretary Solidum discussed DOST-PTRI's innovations, including the transformation of natural fibers like bamboo, banana, and pineapple into fabrics for uniforms and accessories. He also highlighted Smart Textile (SmarTex) functionalization technologies for water repellency, for anti-mosquito property, and flame retardance, and initiatives on textile industry sustainability and circularity, as well as the life-cycle analysis of textile fibers, fabrics, dyes, and colorants.

Furthermore, Academician William G. Padolina delivered a keynote address titled "PAGTANAW 2050: A Clarion Call for Chemists in the Philippines," emphasizing the role of chemists and scientists of adjunct fields in operationalizing disruptive sciences and technologies towards an integrated science, technology and innovation roadmap. Sustainability and the circular economy through interventions in natural and bio-based materials and raw material feedstocks were highlighted as an important vector for attaining the goals of Ambisyon Natin 2040.

The event underscored the importance of DOST-PTRI's work in promoting innovation and sustainability in the Philippine textile industry through chemical research and development.
