DOST-PTRI hosted a facility tour for renowned fashion designer and regenerative farmer, Ms. Hindy Weber Tantoco, and her team on July 31, 2024. Ms. Tantoco, who has over ten years of experience as the in-house designer for more than seven brands at Rustan's, is now venturing into sustainable fashion.
To provide them with a deeper understanding of natural textile production, they observed the spinning process at the DOST-PTRI Innovation Center for Yarns & Textiles (ICYT).
The team also explored a range of textile products, including clothing, bags, shoes, and accessories made from bamboo, pineapple, abaca, banana, and silk, as well as naturally dyed yarns and fabrics showcased in the TELA Gallery, Textile Design and Innovation Hub.
Also highlighted in the tour is the 3D Body Scanner of the Institute's Textile Product Development Center (TPDC). This technology illustrates its potential to improve the efficiency of the product development process and aids in creating a sizing system for Filipinos.
The team is particularly interested in incorporating natural textile fibers and natural dyes into their creations. They look forward to a possible collaboration with the Institute.
