The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) and the Philippine Civil Service Commission (CSC) have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting the mainstreaming of the Philippine Tropical Fabric (PTF) for government employees' uniforms. This was marked by a ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement and Deed of Donation, followed by a turn-over ceremony of PTF at the CSC Resource Center Building on August 5, 2024.
This event officially handed over the PTF earmarked for the uniforms of approximately 1,422 CSC employees. The CSC becomes the third national government agency to receive PTF uniforms under DOST-PTRI’s project, "Design and Production of Primary Group of Government Agencies’ Uniforms to Boost the Mainstream Market of the Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) in the Country through the Inclusive Business."
The initiative is aligned with Section 3 of Republic Act 9242, also known as “An Act Prescribing the Use of Philippine Tropical Fabrics for Uniforms of Public Officials and Employees and for Other Purposes.” The law mandates the use of PTF, which comprises natural textile fibers from pineapple leaf, abaca, banana, bamboo, and Philippine silk, in government offices and functions. These fabrics are produced, spun, woven, or knitted, and finished in the Philippines, meeting the requirements of the relevant Philippine National Standard (PNS).
The CSC joins the House of Representatives and the GPPB-Technical Support Office (TSO) as recipients of PTF-compliant uniforms this year. Following closely will be NEDA, DOST, and DTI, who are also expected to adopt the use of PTF uniforms within the year.
