Sophomore and junior Bachelor of Science in Textile and Fashion Technology students from Central Luzon State University (CLSU) conducted a facility tour at the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) on October 2, 2024. The visit aimed to provide students with firsthand experience and insights into textile testing equipment and fiber-to-fabric processing.

The students explored the DOST-PTRI Innovations Center for Yarns and Textiles (ICYT), which houses the Institute's advanced yarn-spinning facility. This experience is particularly beneficial for the third-year students enrolled in courses on Knitting and Weaving, as well as Issues in the Textile and Fashion Industry. The opportunity to observe yarn production processes and innovations in textile technology will enhance their academic journey.

Second-year students, currently enrolled in the Physical and Chemical Testing course, gained valuable insights from their visit to DOST-PTRI's testing laboratories. These labs are dedicated to research and quality assessment of textile materials, providing essential knowledge on the rigorous testing processes that ensure product quality. This exposure is expected to deepen their understanding of theoretical concepts and their practical applications.

A highlight of the visit was the TELA Gallery, showcasing various textile creations made from Natural Textile Fibers (NTF). This exhibition aligns with the students’ educational objectives, illustrating innovative uses of indigenous materials and techniques.

This visit provided the students with valuable insights into the textile industry, enriching their academic knowledge about Philippine textiles as part of the Institute’s Textile Academy. By interacting directly with DOST-PTRI’s facilities and experts, students were able to connect theoretical lessons with industry standards and practices.
