The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) concluded its successful participation and exhibition at the National Biotechnology Week 2024 (NBW 2024), held at the E.B. Copeland Gymnasium, University of the Philippines Los Baños, from November 25 to 29, 2024. This week-long celebration, established under Presidential Proclamation No. 1414, emphasized biotechnology's pivotal role in promoting sustainable food security, accessible healthcare, industrial development, and environmental protection—all critical to the nation's progress toward a more sustainable future.

Throughout the event, the Institute engaged in dynamic activities, including the opening ceremony, technical discussions, and interactive exhibits. These efforts fostered collaborations, strengthened partnerships, and expanded the institute's network of stakeholders. The DOST-PTRI's exhibit highlighted innovative and eco-friendly technologies in the textile sector, including bio-coloration of lignocellulosic textiles using microbial sources, enhanced biochemical pre-treatment method, and advancements in quality testing of textiles and allied products. These contributions showcased the institute's commitment to driving a greener and more sustainable textile industry through biotechnology.

NBW 2024 brought together leading institutions and organizations at the forefront of biotechnology innovation. Among the exhibitors were DOST-PCHRD, DOST-PCAARRD, DOST-NRCP, DOST-ITDI, DOST-FPRDI, DOST-NAST, UPLB, DENR-ERDB, DA-BAR, DA-BIOTECH, FDA, DTI-BOI, DOH-Disease Prevention and Control Bureau, DOH-Health Promotion Bureau, and CHED, reflecting the collective effort of public and private sectors in leveraging biotechnology to address societal challenges.

DOST-PTRI's participation not only underscored its contributions to the textile sector but also reinforced its role as a key player in advancing sustainable practices through science and technology.
