The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) has brought pride to the Philippines by securing multiple awards at the 2024 Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) in South Korea. Both of the institute’s featured technologies earned prestigious recognition, cementing the country’s reputation for innovative solutions in the textile industry.

The Covert Security Yarns and Markings for Anti-Counterfeiting Applications received a Gold Medal, represented by Mr. Gabriel Nicolo A. De Guzman. This invention integrates photoluminescent materials into natural textile fibers, providing an invisible yet highly effective mechanism for textile authentication. It addresses the global issue of counterfeiting, particularly in textiles, and ensures product integrity in international commerce, offering industries a secure solution to combat imitation and fraud.

Meanwhile, the Bamboo Textile Fiber Technology, represented by Ms. Marie Antonette V. Berces, earned a Bronze Medal for its innovative approach to bamboo fiber production. Utilizing a mechano-chemical extraction process, the technology achieves an impressive fiber recovery rate of up to 55%, significantly higher than other natural raw materials. This high-yield method supports the production of bamboo-based yarns and fabrics, contributing to the sustainability and development of the Philippine textile industry.

In addition to the medal wins, the DOST-PTRI was also recognized with the Best Inventor Award by the Takharuj Law Firm of Saudi Arabia, a testament to the Institute’s groundbreaking contributions to global textile innovation.

The Philippine delegation including the DOST-PTRI Team was accompanied and supported by the Department of Science and Technology - Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), which continues to strengthen its internationalization campaign for technology promotion by showcasing the ingenuity of Filipino inventors and innovators.

The DOST-PTRI’s achievements at the SIIF highlight its commitment to developing technologies that advance the country’s textile sector while promoting sustainability and global competitiveness. These awards not only underscore the institute’s technical expertise but also reaffirm the potential of Filipino ingenuity to excel on the world stage.
