The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) is taking the lead in promoting sustainability through its innovative textile solutions at the ongoing Tactics for Better PlasTIK (Technology, Innovation, and Knowledge) Expo and Forum. The event, organized by DOST in cooperation with SM Investments Corporation, is held at the SM Megamall Trade Hall from October 10 to 11 and highlights cutting-edge solutions to the plastic waste crisis, with DOST-PTRI championing eco-friendly alternatives through its display of sustainable textile technologies. 

A day after the signing of Republic Act No. 12024, also known as the Self-reliant Defense Posture Revitalization Act, which seeks to bolster local defense asset production and foster a national defense industry, the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) spearheaded the Innovation Dialogue for Human Security and the Defense Sector. The event, held on October 9, 2024, at the TELA Gallery in Taguig City, gathered key stakeholders to explore advancements in military textiles and defense technologies. 

The Presidential Management Staff (PMS) recently visited the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) to explore its ongoing textile research and development projects. During the visit, the delegation expressed a keen interest in the Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) initiative, which aims to enhance the capabilities of the country's uniformed personnel through the use of locally sourced textiles. This project not only bolsters national defense efforts but also supports the growth of the Philippine textile industry by promoting indigenous materials and innovation.
