Bamboo is no longer just a construction material or decorative plant. It’s now at the forefront of a textile revolution in the Philippines, as showcased by the recently launched KAWAYAN: The Bamboo Textiles Exhibition hosted by the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI). This event showcases the versatility and innovation behind bamboo textiles, a sustainable alternative making waves in the global fashion and textile industry. 

The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) held a press conference as part of the opening of KAWAYAN: The Bamboo Textiles PH Exhibition, highlighting the significance of bamboo as a sustainable material in the textile industry. The event was led by Dr. Julius L. Leaño, Jr., Director IV of the DOST-PTRI, along with Ms. Catherine Diquit-Jennerman, owner of Likhang Maragondon, her husband and popular content creator Mr. Kyle Douglas "Kulas" Jennerman of Becoming Filipino, and Ms. Doreen Odvina, founder of Shoepatos. 

In celebration of Philippine Bamboo Month this September 2024, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) participated in Pangasinan State University’s Internationalization Week 2024. Held on September 10, 2024, the event’s theme, “Inclusivity in Diversity: Creating a Sustainable International Community Through Globalization,” centered on showcasing the rich cultures and traditions within the university and province to the global community. 

In celebration of Philippine Bamboo Month, the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) officially opened the KAWAYARN: The Bamboo Textiles PH Exhibition on September 12, 2024, at the TELA Gallery, DOST-PTRI Building, Bicutan, Taguig City. This event showcases the versatility and innovation behind bamboo textiles, a sustainable alternative making waves in the global fashion and textile industry.
