CELEBRATING EMPOWERED WOMEN IN THE CITY GOVERNMENT OF TAGUIG THROUGH THE BASIC HANDLOOM WEAVING TRAINING FROM THE DOST-PTRI

In line with the National Women's Month Celebration and as a priority area of Taguig City's Livelihood Caravan Project, 15 empowered women successfully graduated after completing a five-day training in DOST-PTRI's Basic Handloom Weaving Course. The course equipped them with fundamental weaving skills using an upright, 4-harness handloom weaving machine, covering weaving terminologies, elementary fabric computations, and handloom machine operations with troubleshooting to create basic pattern weave designs, aiming to generate livelihood opportunities for women beneficiaries.

The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) concluded a successful participation and poster presentation at the 2nd Iloilo International Conference on Advanced Natural Products Technologies (I2CANProTech) and AuRIns-USA Bilateral Conference, held from March 05 - 08 March, 2024, at the University of San Agustin, Iloilo City. The theme for this year's Conference is "Omics Odyssey: Translating Natural Product Discoveries into Technologies for Better Health Outcomes," which highlights the role of Omics techniques in natural product technological innovations. The event drew 270 local and international attendees from a variety of stakeholders, including academia, business, and government agencies, as well as global leading experts in the natural product field.

In support of the development of an economically productive and innovative Philippine Textile Industry, the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) has deployed technology exhibit booths for natural textile fibers and dyes through its “FRONTIER: Fostering the Revitalization of Nascent Textile Innovation Ecosystems in the Regions Program” during the “Abel ti Abra: Where Tradition Meets Innovation” event on 26 February 2024 held at Governor Andres Bernos Memorial Gymnasium, University of Abra, Bangued Campus.
