The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) showcased its latest innovations in Geotextiles and Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) technologies at the opening ceremony of the Handa Pilipinas Luzon Leg: Innovations in Climate and Disaster Resilience held at Plaza del Norte in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte on July 3, 2024.

With the theme "Alertong Luzon, Solidong Nasyon!", the event sought to highlight innovations that strengthen the nation's preparedness and response capabilities. It also aimed to increase public awareness of preventable and solvable problems that the country is facing right now.

DOST-PTRI featured the BDU made from bamboo fabric, specifically from 𝘉𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘢 𝘣𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘢 or Kawayang Tinik textile fibers sourced from DOST-PTRI bamboo partner farmers in La Union. The fabric was printed with the DOST-PTRI and RDC camouflage pattern using a screen-printing technique in partnership with a local textile finishing mill.

Moreover, the Institute also introduced its Geotextiles Testing, the Philippines' first and only Geotextile Testing Services facility. This facility ensures that geotextile materials used in infrastructure, buildings, roadworks, and bridges comply with international standards.
