The DOST-PTRI signed Memorandum of Agreements (MOAs) to boost the Philippine silk industry during the 5th Philippine Silk Summit in Cagayan de Oro City. These agreements were made with the Organization For Industrial, Spiritual And Cultural Advancement (OISCA) Philippines, the Department of Tourism Region 10, the Local Government Unit of Villanueva, the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - Sericulture Research and Development Institute (DMMMSU-SRDI), and the Department of Agriculture Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority.
These collaborative efforts aim to synergize expertise, resources, and networks to propel the Philippine silk sector to new heights. By joining forces with OISCA Philippines, known for its commitment to sustainable development, the initiative gains a strong ally in advocating for environmentally friendly silk production practices.
Additionally, partnering with the Department of Tourism Region 10 and the Local Government Unit of Villanueva enhances the visibility of Philippine silk as a unique cultural and economic asset, fostering tourism and local pride in silk-producing regions.
Moreover, the collaboration with DMMMSU-SRDI and the Department of Agriculture Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority signifies a concerted effort to advance research and development in sericulture, thereby improving silk quality, yield, and processing techniques.
Through these strategic partnerships, the stage is set for significant advancements in Philippine silk production. This, in turn, is poised to catalyze economic growth by creating new avenues for income generation and employment opportunities within silk-producing communities.
