The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) solidified two key partnerships through Memoranda of Agreement (MOA) exchanges during the KatHABI Fashion Show, a part of the 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) Region 1, held at the Malacañang of the North, Paoay, Ilocos Norte on July 4, 2024.
The first MOA was signed between DOST-PTRI, Pangasinan State University (PSU), DOST 1 - Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. 1, and the DOST PSTO - Pangasinan Field Office. This agreement designates PSU as the primary stakeholder for the community-based verification of the Bamboo Textile Fiber (BTF) extraction technology developed in Pangasinan. The collaboration aims to offer central direction and support in the scientific, economic, and livelihood aspects of local communities in Pangasinan.
The second MOA involved DOST-PTRI, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Vintar, DOST-Region 1, and DOST Provincial Science and Technology Office - Ilocos Norte. This partnership aims to equip weavers with technological solutions to address their challenges, including handloom weaving trainings and seminars, to preserve their traditional weaving methods, stimulate economic growth, and ensure sustainable development for the weaving communities in Vintar.
These partnerships underscore DOST-PTRI's commitment to fostering innovation and development within the textile industry, supporting local communities, and preserving traditional weaving practices through modern technological interventions.
