DOST-PTRI Researches were Presented in the NAST Scientific Poster Session of the 42nd Annual Scientific Meeting

TAGUIG CITY – Five notable scientific papers from the Philippine Textile Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PTRI) were presented in the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Scientific Poster Session, as part of this year’s 42nd Annual Scientific Meeting.

The research studies presented fell under the Biological Sciences, and the Engineering Science and Technology Divisions, and were among the 150 researches submitted. These are detailed in the Table below.

Surface modified Abaca-sourced cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) serve as a precursor for further functionalization. This opens up the possibilities for CNC from Abaca for various applications such as sensors, anti-counterfeiting, biomarker applications, and more.

The National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) held its 42nd Annual Scientific Meeting with the theme “Science and Technology for Society: Solutions to Long-Standing Concerns” via Zoom. This year, it focused on the science, technological, and societal researches on the issues to address these concerns for policy recommendations and appropriate interventions. It also tackled COVID-19 pandemic-related topics and guidelines for the said issue to be submitted to the Philippine government and the private sector. The winners for the Best in Scientific Poster Award per division were awarded last July 10, 2020, during the last day of the scientific meeting.
