DOST-PTRI OPENS 2024 KAWAYARN: THE BAMBOO TEXTILES PH EXHIBITION FOR PHILIPPINE BAMBOO MONTH

In celebration of Philippine Bamboo Month, the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) officially opened the KAWAYARN: The Bamboo Textiles PH Exhibition on September 12, 2024, at the TELA Gallery, DOST-PTRI Building, Bicutan, Taguig City. This event showcases the versatility and innovation behind bamboo textiles, a sustainable alternative making waves in the global fashion and textile industry.

The exhibition features a range of bamboo-based textile creations, from fabrics and fibers to yarns and fully crafted wearables from the KAWAYARN collections of notable Filipino designers—Anthony Cruz Legarda, Avel Bacudio, and the fashion brand BAYO. 

The fabric untying ceremony, symbolizing the opening of the exhibition, was led by DOST-PTRI Director Dr. Julius L. Leaño, Jr., Ms. Catherine Diquit-Jennerman, Owner of Likhang Maragondon, her husband Mr. Kyle Douglas Jennerman, known to many as Kulas, a well-known content creator behind Becoming Filipino, and Ms. Doreen Odvina.
