During the press conference, the panel discussed bamboo textiles' potential to enter the global market, emphasizing their ecological benefits. Dr. Leaño shared insights into DOST-PTRI's ongoing efforts to expand bamboo textiles beyond the local scene, showcasing how bamboo is emerging as a valuable and sustainable resource for various industries.
Dr. Leaño stated that the Bamboo Textiles initiative has shown great promise, and the Institute is continuously working to elevate its presence both locally and internationally. It is a material that offers sustainability while addressing the growing demand for eco-friendly products.
Moreover, Ms. Diquit-Jennerman, who integrates bamboo textiles into her products at Likhang Maragondon in Cavite, passionately advocates for supporting local weaving communities. She noted that the innovations introduced through science and technology have enhanced the quality of bamboo products, making them competitive on the global stage.
As bamboo textiles continue to gain traction, the panelists highlighted the importance of striking a balance between preserving traditional craftsmanship and embracing modern innovations. They emphasized that by incorporating new technologies, they can meet the demands of a growing market without sacrificing sustainability or heritage.
The event sets a positive outlook for the future of bamboo textiles, with DOST-PTRI's initiatives playing a key role in putting the Philippines at the forefront of sustainable textile innovation. The exhibition aims to not only raise awareness but also strengthen the bamboo textile industry's contribution to both the local and global markets.
