As part of the 2024 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) in SOCCSKSARGEN., the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) recently conducted "KatHABI: PTFs Reimagined," a Fashion Innovation Event held at Veranza Activity Center, General Santos City, South Cotabato on October 2, 2024.

The event showcased the innovations in textiles and garments, particularly those made from Philippine Tropical Fabrics, featuring collections from premiere designers such as Mr. Avel Bacudio, Ms. Niña Corpuz of Nina Inabel, Dr. Lizan Calina of Hiraya Lizan, and Mr. JC Buendia.

A KAWAYARN Collection was also presented through the bamboo textiles products designed by Anthony Cruz Legarda and Avel Bacudio. This collection is crafted entirely from fabrics made with DOST-PTRI-developed bamboo textile fiber extraction, treatment, and spinning technologies. It showcases a range of weaving techniques, natural dyeing processes, and fabric finishing methods.

Legarda’s Haute Culture Collection further amplified the evening by honoring the Philippines' indigenous communities. The collection featured fabrics made from natural fibers like pineapple, abaca, silk, and bamboo yarns, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern design elements.

Also taking center stage was the Haute Culture Collection by Hiraya Lizan, which showcased garments crafted from PTF and the Inaul fabric. Inaul, a traditional handwoven textile from Maguindanao and some parts of Mindanao, is known for its vibrant colors and intricate patterns, often associated with royalty and cultural pride.
